Meet Wenark Green
WENARK GREEN WELCOMES YOU
The odd couple behind killer mysteries
Wenark Green, Wen(dy) Wilson and (M)Ark Hallworth are authors with a turbulent, improbable friendship and enduring bond. Two people so different they shouldn’t work, but in a market awash with crime fiction, perhaps it takes something unusual to ride the waves. With a shared love of literature, their aim to create buoyant books to keep readers afloat spawned the idea to write a series of murder mysteries set in blissful, rural locations. Inspired by Agatha Christie’s intricate plotting, the cerebral logic of Sherlock Holmes, and Midsomer Murders at its most eccentric, Wenark Green chose character-driven rather than plot-heavy for their stories.
A partnership forged in contrast and strength
Armed with a quaint pen name, plucked from their forenames and a zeal for Mother Nature, the couple readied to write the first whodunnit, but a devastating MS plot twist halted plans before pen hit paper. With the suffocating strain of an uncertain future and clashing personalities clashing a step too far, the duo’s vision packed its bags, ready for dead-end street. Rather than folding, they adapted, and soon, their aim became a reality and morphed into positive progress.
A mismatched meeting of matching minds, the pair sound like a disaster waiting to happen. Instead, their differences snap together to make the finest puzzle, their neuro-connection seeing patterns, inconsistencies, and motives others might miss. Across scenes and chapters, the voice remains; a carved, consistent tone unmistakably their own.
Turning personal challenges into creativity
Writing as Wenark Green, Wendy and Mark have forged a dedicated, creative duo crafting the Windy & Darling mystery series. Starring a pair of unlikely amateur sleuths, whose repartee crackles, logic dazzles, and whose individuality, like the authors, forms an unconventional union, the sparring, odd pair mirror their creators.
Mark, living with ASD and anxiety, builds the bones of each book, smothering himself in chaotic characters and their world with care, humour, and curiosity, exploring every avenue and adding warmth, compassion, and a sharp, wicked wit. When arriving at his destination, he passes the baton to Wendy, who, managing MS, shapes and sharpens prose and dialogue, animating the narrative. When polished, alive, and reader-ready, she presents edited pages like forensic evidence.
Devoted to their craft and thankful for the opportunity, the couple bring their lived experiences to each page, not as labels, but lenses, making stories richer, more nuanced, and more authentic. With attention to detail fuelling intricate plots and clues both inevitable and surprising, resilience, humour, dry wit, and gratitude ignite every intriguing scene with humanity and bite.
Keep on keeping on
After many obstacles threatened to foil their intention, it’s fair to say the authors have got it going on. One vision, one goal, and a foolproof friendship proved loyal. Wenark Green are proud to prove personal challenges aren’t obstacles to creativity, but engines for it.
Their feature-length debut, Deadly Dough, and follow-up, Fatal Fungus, are available on Amazon. Horrid Herbs, the third book in the Windy & Darling Mystery Series, is suffering a meticulous edit and should be ready to query circa spring/summer 2026.
Many thanks for reading the winsome whisperings of two offbeat inkslingers. To be part of Wenark’s capers, follow their socials and/or dip into the blog and media to join the quixotic adventures of two quirky opposites in their whimsical world.
When a devastating MS diagnosis thwarted unwritten novel ideas, Wendy found her writer’s voice, but not before the reality of brain fog, chronic pain, and psychological trauma pitched her into deep despair. Barely walking and unable to use her arms/hands, she shunned morbid thoughts of a doomed future, swapped wallowing for blue skies, and accepted her calling. With radical changes to lifestyle, diet, and mindset, Wendy tore down barriers and nurtured her vision to publish.
Born in the original Washington, NE England, Wendy’s insane passion for words and every nuance of the English language hijacked her in the womb while breathing in her creative late mother. Cuddled with everything literary as a child, she now writes, edits, and critiques, ensuring her love of all things grammatical never wanes.
In her spare time, Wendy writes murder mysteries and psychological thrillers. Other passions include music, cooking, yoga, animals, and comedy. A lifelong zealous nature buff with an impressive hat collection and mismatched eyes, Wendy’s a sworn bookworm. She reads many genres and devours dictionaries, adding a wondrous new word to her repertoire every day.
English-born, Scottish-raised, environmental science graduate Mark is formidable at book formatting and proofreading. He also writes satirical murder mysteries, makes electronic music, and one day hopes to launch a series of sci-fi books. Mark loves dabbling in new pastimes. His latest obsession, making ice cream, has seen some bizarre flavours jumping from the churner, screaming for mercy. Devoted to maps, Mark fancies himself as a modern-day Gerardus Mercator, cartographer and geographer.
A dedicated geek, sweet-tooth, and hat thief, Mark’s hopelessly devoted to roads and lampposts, and his fondness for tree-hugging or pylon pondering takes whimsical to a new level. His pylon paraphernalia’s enviable—if you’re a nerd—and he’s not averse to making the odd shocking comment on the Pylon Appreciation Society platform. He even has a favourite pylon—an L12 design christened Dave.
High on Mark’s priorities are reading, laughter, healthy food, and nature bathing. He adores animals, especially cats. Just ask Tahlula, the fussy old tuxedo puss he’s slave to.
